Arioc appears in PeerJ

Arioc is an open source read alignment software tool authored by colleague Richard Wilton that runs on NVIDIA GPUs such as the Tesla K40 and K80 accelerators. In a new publication in PeerJ, we formulate the read alignment task as a series of list-processing operations that run very efficiently on GPU hardware. The method is extremely fast (2-3 times faster than other GPU approaches, about an order of magnitude faster than multithreaded non-GPU approaches) and demonstrates accuracy on par with widely used tools like Bowtie 2 and BWA-MEM. Arioc can also run on multiple accelerators simultaneously; when running on 3 K20c’s, Arioc produces read alignments faster than a magnetic hard drive can write them!
